How much is your company's data worth?

micro1, Telegraph and Grepped each publish a payout estimator. Tell us your team size and how long the company has run, and we run all three for you.

Is the company still operating?
Which records do you still have? (optional)

We use these to show who else takes records like yours.

We never ask for your company's name.

How each estimate is worked out

We copied each formula from the company's own site and run it in your browser.

micro1
Asks for Employees, years of data, headquarters
Grows with team size and years of records. Canada and Europe get 75% of the US figure, and everywhere else gets 30%. micro1 works the figure out on its own server, so we rebuilt the formula from its answers. Ours lands within $25 of micro1's for most companies and within $4,000 for a very small, young one.
Telegraph
Asks for Employees (20 to 200+), years in business (3 to 20+), location
A table of four team sizes from 20 to 200 people. Each year above or below ten adds or takes away a set amount. Location counts the same way as at micro1. The result is rounded to $5,000 and never goes under $100,000.
Grepped
Asks for Employees, year founded, annual revenue
A base for each revenue band, scaled up by team size and by how long the company has run. The top of the range is 1.43 times the bottom. Without a revenue band it uses its middle one.

Common questions

Why are the three estimates so far apart?

Each company prices a different deal from different answers. micro1 and Telegraph price a license of the company's operating records. Grepped's quick estimate reads only team size, age and revenue; the quote on its own form also counts which systems you hold.

Is any of this an offer?

No. micro1 calls its figure an indicative estimate, Grepped says its estimate is not an offer, and Telegraph makes every deal subject to data review and agreed terms. The amount is set after each company reviews what the records hold: how much survived, how clean it is, how rare it is and who would use it.

Does Dataconto set these numbers?

No. Each range comes from that company's own formula, copied from its site. We don't add a figure of our own, because no buyer publishes one we could stand behind.

What if the company has closed?

micro1's estimator is for running companies. Its program for closed companies publishes no figure, so we show none. Telegraph's and Grepped's estimators don't ask. The fit check covers who takes a closed company's records.

Why does the UK count as Europe?

Neither micro1 nor Telegraph lists the UK. Both offer the US, Canada, Europe and other, so a UK company picks Europe on their pages, and we do the same.

Does anything reach Dataconto?

Your answers as numbers and option codes, the three ranges shown and how many buyers fit, so we can see whether the tool works. Never a company name, a website or free text. Privacy policy.
