How the list is made

  • We search SEC EDGAR's full-text search for filings from 2023 on that talk about licensing data or content for AI, then read each filing.
  • A company is in only when its own filing says it licenses, has licensed or has agreed to license its data or content for AI training or for use in AI products. Where the filing doesn't mention training, the row says so. A risk factor saying others might use its content without permission doesn't count.
  • A revenue figure goes in the amount column only when the filing ties it to AI. A broader line, such as all content licensing, is mentioned in the row's note instead.
  • Each quote is copied from the filing, and an amount appears only when the filing states one. A buyer is named only when the filing names it.
  • Press reports and other trackers are not sources here, so a deal reported in the news but not in a filing is left out.

For companies that aren't public, the buyer database lists what AI buyers publish they pay owners for company records and code.
